Urbanum means "metropolitan" or "polite" and "amiable" and refers to mostly outward-attentive energy or social nature with a focus on people, entertainment and cultural trends or authorities. (I have given Urbanum the alternative name Orationem which means "eloquent" and refers to high verbal ability and well-spokenness.)
Urbanum is the most environment-oriented and restless psychosis-hylomorphism, which is connected with their outwardness and energy for trends, social activity, helping others, and mastering some part of the prevailing culture.
"Socio-extrinsic energy"
As we can see in the theoretical model, I have placed this human trait as the localization of the social-anxious sphere (associated with needs, empathy, affection, expressiveness and love). It is thus an instinct or energy that is very close to a natural kindness with seemingly loving traits such as supportiveness, helpfulness, sociability and a driving force to be appreciated and liked by the world in general. The people-oriented power of Urbanum is strong, but the socio-extrinsic tendency means that they adapt to a variety of people, trends and sociocultural contexts, with the result that they sometimes become perceived as empty and superficial on a deeper plane. However, it is this malleability and socially perceptive or active tendency that gives them a particular talent as medical doctors, politicians, executives, coaching experts, or entertainers.
Function in the species
In mankind "as an organism," the Urbanum-energy seems to primarily constitute a function intended to support or ensure social activity and enthusiasm, outwardness, adaptability, entrepreneurship and domain expertise, social intelligence, medical health and competence with respect to authority, adherence and helpfulness, benevolence, eloquence, entertainment and spreading joy, resourcefulness, efficiency, stress resilience, etc. Commonly an Urbanum-individual will reach the conclusion that something of this sort is their life calling.
Causal mechanism
The fundamental or central mechanism behind this energy that promotes its function and characteristics seems to revolve around big enthusiasm that increase expressiveness, positivity and active energy; together with a need for love, affirmation, and appreciation from others, pressing the instinct into wanting to master a particular area of the social or cultural sphere. Their focus is thus placed on what other people's experiences or expectations are so that they can live up to this, which can be difficult since different people have different values and expectations. Thus the Urbanum-energy contains a tendency to strive for a position of giving advice (coaching) and verbal social dominance to market themselves and their position as the best in the prevailing culture. This does not necessarily make them outwardly aggressive, since they want to be liked and maintain positivity. But it does make them value a self-image of being intelligent and knowledgeable within their social field. Aggression is instead expressed through social competition or backbiting slander where they lower others through sophisticated insults. A polarity of social friendliness and social aggression.
As biological support for their enthusiastic energy and adaptability, Urbanum-individuals are usually athletic and well-developed in constitution with a good vocal ability to express themselves with. Like Fiduciam-individuals, they can therefore lack self-criticism and be overconfident, which is also connected with their often happy and positive mood. This also makes them intolerant towards negativity. But their capacity for inwardness and their own values is limited or sacrificed in their orientation towards the cultural and people, which easily leads to self-deception, frivolity, and lack of substance. However, their social adaptation does not necessarily make them conservative since they want to be on top when it comes to appreciation from others, which leads to an interest in innovations, entertainment technology and modernity that can enhance their social achievements, expertise and spreading of joy. It therefore happens that Urbanum-individuals may appear or consider themselves to be geeky or "introverted" (thus I avoid the word "extraversion" to describe the type here).
Personal, relational, and socio-cultural problems
On the personal level, their activity and energy can lead to burnout. Urbanum-individuals have the most difficulty being passive, which increases the risk of high blood pressure and heart attacks. They also tend to lose contact with themselves in their adaptation to prevailing values, professional role performance and pleasing others. All this more or less leads to artificiality with excessive self-control and worry about self-image that draws an unnecessary amount of energy and reduces the sense of authenticity and substance; which, in turn, leads to an increase in attempts to replace their authentic being with adaptation to expectations and various other social contributions or entertaining accomplishments. But Urbanum-individuals can never be sure if people really love them for who they are or just for the accomplished and happy role they dress up in.
This also creates problems in the relational sphere where a partner, child or other family members may become frustrated with Urbanum's workaholism and inflexibility in order to reach their professional goal, as well as being considered as tasks Urbanum wants to succeed with socioculturally. The unwillingness to lose the mask or ideal role can cause Urbanum-individuals to avoid sex and intimacy or make sexual intercourse into superficial gymnastics they wish to master in order to be considered a good lover, which neither satisfies themselves nor their partner on a deeper level. Although Urbanum is regarded as a social and affectionate "love type," their self-control and demands on others (in order not to put a stain on their social shine) tends to reduce their capacity for genuine love, with an almost inhuman and artificial focus on performance as a result. A kind of competition with partners and friends can also arise, and the fact they are intolerant of criticism and negativity does not make relationships less easy.
At the societal level, their tendencies lead to conformity and to embellish – even whitewash – what is already valued in the culture, regardless of how true or healthy it is. The Urbanum-energy contributes to a culture that does not sense its own lack of substance and trivializes serious questioning or what people are on a deeper level. These superficial values have, especially in modern times, become immensely destructive to society, where advertising that establishes new superficial values and fashions conquers more essential values. Urbanum cares a lot about joy and entertainment, but for them, even frivolity is better than no entertainment – something that has contributed to the unsustainable "wear and tear" culture that is ruining the environment. More money is even spent on marketing than on the actual production of the product. The market economy and the lack of time and burnouts in our modern lives are very much related to Urbanum-individuals who value constant activity, and those people who do not have as much energy for productivity as Urbanum does not survive the competition in the market.
Urbanumic marketing, and painting themselves and the culture they are devoted to as being more attractive than it really is, can also be said to be related to social propaganda. Intolerance of criticism towards their community services and accomplishments leads to an intolerance of criticism towards the culture and trends they are dedicated to in general. At the same time, they rhetorically build up people's self-image in order to reduce social friction and maintain the illusion that anything is possible. In this way, they also rationalize and whitewash that which is unhealthy and should not be rationalized. More than the poor and the passive, it is the "successful" and active Urbanum-individuals that have become the real burden of society.
The influence of secondary instincts on Urbanum-types
With Fiduciam (FID) secondary in the configuration, their idealism, friendliness, flexibility, will to inspire, charm, curiosity and intellectual interests will increase. More warmth and energy with more smile that can be said to increase the Urbanum-tendency in general (probably Mark Zuckerberg is an example). Become more smooth and knows how to talk with people. Increases social intelligence but also self-deception and superficiality. More risk of hypocrisy, especially in combination with Exitium in the configuration.
With Magnitudinem (MAG) secondary in the configuration, their self-control, accusations when criticized, suspicion, aggression, irritability, hostility and guilt will increase. More contradictions in the individual that increases their capacity for questioning, making them adapt more selectively. More capacity to rebel and go against norms, especially in combination with Meritum or Exitium, but can still appear feminine and frivolous. Youtubers such as Onision and LeafyIsHere are probably examples, though the latter may have Abstractum secondary instead. The most disdainful version of Urbanum.
With Abstractum (ABS) secondary in the configuration, their energy, their social tendency, and their focus on trends, etc., will decrease. Can be easily confused with Abstractum-types since they are often experienced as geeky with smaller body frames. Does not want to be as much the center of attention. Possibly have more unusual interests and is less likely to come across as extraverted. Less frivolous. In combination with Corpus they can also become shy. Since there is a decrease in confidence, they often have greater contact with reality and a hidden questioning of their own attempt to constantly appear happy.
With Meritum (MER) co-secondary in the configuration, their need for cultural learning, coolness, admiration for particular individuals, work performance and advice giving, distance from others, criticism of the world, and need to be competent will increase. Is more independent and rigid and can be confused with Meritum-types. May appear to be without troubles but is less likely to be pleasing to others or show off. Often a reliable person who is an asset.
With Corpus (COR) co-secondary in the configuration, their friendliness, softness, relational dependency, pleasing, service, family orientation, and difficulty in marketing themselves will increase. A more simple version that can resemble Libidinem. Focuses more on others who they want to support instead of mastering a social sphere themselves. Have more need to be liked by everyone and is thus in a position at more risk of allowing themselves to be used and exploited (e.g. Marilyn Monroe).
With Exitium (EXI) co-secondary in the configuration, their capacity for insults, arrogance, intensity, social aggressiveness, competitiveness, sexualization, and materialism will increase. More focused on power and profit and have a more difficult time showing vulnerability. More trivializing of people's suffering and does not shy away from manipulation and propaganda in order to market themselves, regardless of the amount of hypocrisy, and with authoritarian elements. Common among American presidential candidates.
